Nothing rubs us the wrong way more than someone who doesn’t do their homework, especially when it comes to social media marketers. Our industry is the butt of enough jokes and there are plenty of folks claiming to be “experts” so let’s all make a concerted effort to bring it up to the next level. Here are three tips that will help you stay on your A-game:
- Do Your Research. When Hootsuite adds Instagram to the platforms it services, you better know exactly how the new partnership works and how it will and won’t benefit your clients. For that matter, be aware of apps and how they integrate into popular social platforms – your value add is providing expertise and insight.
- Be Diligent. Treat your clients as you would your own brand. This means paying close attention to details, meeting deadlines, exceeding expectations, and keeping things fresh when it comes to creativity. There’s nothing worse than a vendor who takes poor notes, turns in projects late and has gone stale generating ideas.
- It’s Okay to “Not Know”. Rather than spouting off prematurely, say that you’ll need to look into the details and get back in touch. Nobody knows everything, and by giving an off-the-cuff reply, you’re opening yourself up to looking like you know less than your clients or being flat-out wrong.
