2017 Social Media Trends: Twitter, Snap & Facebook Live

As we say goodbye to what could be one of the most eventful years in social media, we also look forward to what trends will dominate the space in the coming year. It can be hard to guess which tactics and approaches will dominate in the ever-evolving landscape of social media, but we wanted to share our take on Forbes predications of the 7 social media marketing movements that professionals will see in 2017.

  1. The Evolution of the “Snap”

After Instagram unveiled their new “disappearing” photo feature, people thought it would be the end of Snapchat. After rebranding itself as just ‘Snap’, the app has helped bring back a more moment-focused view of communication, promoting live content and vertical videos. Snap is also looking to move past its original medium and create real-world glasses to help users capture first-person visual information. We are excited to see what Snap comes up with in 2017.

  1. Twitter Tweeted Too Much

Twitter has been on the decline for the last few years, and this year made that more apparent than ever. Its short bursts of quick text were exciting and revolutionary when it first came onto the scene, but now trends are leaning towards more long form content and with less frequency in posts. There are a few situations where Twitter still applies for brands, but users are moving away from this platform.

  1. Users Want to Feel Part of the Experience

Users no longer want to just see photos from a concert, sporting event or even a fashion show, they want to actually be apart of the experience through real-time video. Apps like Periscope and Facebook’s new Facebook Live have introduced users to real time video experiences where they can feel as though they too are living in whatever moment they are witnessing. We think this will continue to be a big part of social media in the upcoming year as more and more platforms get in on the live streaming action.

  1. Evolving the Video Experience

Brands are now going one step further and now utilizing social media platforms as a means of uping their customer service game. Many companies are interacting with consumers beyond just the ‘comment section’. We’re thrilled to see companies using social media channels to make meaningful connections with followers and hope that this continues to evolve.

  1. Advertiser will see fresh ideas

With major social sites constantly updating the way users view advertisements, its increased the competition for paid advertising. In order to compete and keep brands coming back, social platforms are now coming up with more creative and ingenious ways to provide fair advertising options for brands. This may hopefully lead to a new direction in social media advertising in the coming year… we have our fingers crossed!

  1. Your Nature Pics will Dominate Your Food Pics

Practical every-day posts gain user attention, but it is those posts that pull at people emotions and imaginations. We predict a revival of artistic imagery and inspirational posts than those that are reactive or realistic. Brands hoping to grab users will now have to put on their artistic thinking caps in hopes to entice followers in 2017.

  1. Narrowing the Social Media Channel

Every year, there is a stream of new and revolutionary apps and social platforms that compete for everyone’s attention. Instead of stretching your social media strategy across a board range of sites, we predict that brands will try and narrow the channel and spend more effort on just a few platforms at a time. Focusing on the few that do work instead of the many that might work is our prediction for 2017.

It’s hard to say which of these trends will prove strongest and the fight for attention and followers is continually on the rise. Regardless, its important to continually think outside the box and to dabble in new approaches and tactics and there’s a chance your brand will stand to benefit from these changes. Bring on 2017!
